The information provided on CalorieJoy (caloriejoy.com) is for general informational and educational purposes only. By using our website, you acknowledge and agree to the following.
Not Medical or Nutritional Advice
CalorieJoy is not a medical or healthcare provider. The content on our website, including recipes, nutritional information, articles, and calculator results, does not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional or registered dietitian before:
- Starting any new diet or nutrition program
- Making changes to your eating habits based on our content
- Relying on calculator results for health-related decisions
- Using our content to manage any medical condition
When Not to Use Our Tools
Our calculators are built for healthy, non-pregnant adults aged 18 to 100. Calorie and protein targets need to come from a clinician, not a calculator, if any of the following apply to you:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You are under 18
- You have a history of an eating disorder
- You have chronic kidney disease or reduced kidney function
- You have diabetes treated with insulin or sulfonylureas
- You have a cardiac condition, liver disease, or have had bariatric surgery
- Your BMI is already in the underweight range
Chronic kidney disease deserves a specific note, because it reverses standard advice. Where general guidance suggests eating more protein during weight loss, kidney disease guidelines hold protein near 0.8 g per kg of body weight and advise against exceeding 1.3 g per kg. For this reason our protein calculators ask about kidney function and will not show you a number if you indicate you have kidney disease. Your target has to come from your nephrologist or a renal dietitian.
Eating Disorder Support
Calorie targets, gram targets, and tracking can be harmful for people with a history of disordered eating. If your relationship with food or your body feels out of control, that deserves real support rather than another number.
In the United States, the National Eating Disorders Association (nationaleatingdisorders.org) offers a free, confidential screening tool and a treatment finder. In a crisis, you can call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) at any time. Outside the US, please contact your local health service or a clinician who works with eating disorders.
Nutritional Data Accuracy
We make reasonable efforts to provide accurate nutritional information for our recipes. However, nutritional values are estimates and may vary due to:
- Differences in ingredient brands and varieties
- Variations in portion sizes and measurements
- Changes in preparation and cooking methods
- Seasonal variations in produce
- Rounding and calculation methods used by databases
If you have food allergies, intolerances, or specific dietary requirements, always verify ingredients and nutritional information independently.
Health Calculators
Our calculators use published, peer-reviewed formulas, and each calculator page lists the specific equations and scientific sources behind it. Resting metabolic rate is estimated using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, ideal body weight using the Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi formulas, and body fat percentage using the US Navy circumference method.
These are population estimates, not measurements of you. Even the best resting metabolic rate equation carries an individual error of roughly 150 calories per day, and about one person in three falls outside a 10 percent margin. Total daily energy expenditure predictions are less accurate still. Treat any number our tools give you as a starting point to be corrected against what actually happens to your weight over several weeks.
Our calculators:
- Are intended for healthy adults aged 18 to 100 only
- Do not account for individual health conditions, medications, or unique circumstances
- Should not replace professional medical assessment
- May not be appropriate for athletes, pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, elderly persons, or those with chronic health conditions
Recipe Safety
When preparing recipes from our website, please follow standard food safety practices. We are not responsible for any adverse reactions, illness, or injury resulting from the preparation or consumption of recipes found on our site. Coaching and Personal Guidance
CalorieJoy is written by one person sharing a system that worked for him. It is not written by a registered dietitian, and nothing on this site is individualised nutrition therapy.
If we ever work together directly, the same limits apply: we teach a system and help you hold yourself to it. We do not diagnose, treat, or provide nutrition therapy for any medical condition, and we will refer you to a qualified professional where that is what you need.
