Proteins

Smoky Paprika Air Fryer Chicken Breast

277 calories · 58g protein · 25 minutes

Scored chicken breast rubbed with smoked paprika and air fried. The cross-hatch cuts let the seasoning get deep into the meat, and the air fryer crisps up the edges. Three ingredients (plus salt), one pan, done. This is the leanest protein option on the list — almost pure protein with barely any fat.

Salt & Pepper Air Fryer Turkey Breast Bites

291 calories · 59g protein · 31 minutes

Turkey breast cut into chunks, seasoned with just salt and pepper, air fried until golden. Even leaner than chicken breast, with 59g of protein per serving. The key is cutting pieces the same size so they cook evenly. Great for calorie deficit meal prep — cook the whole batch and portion it out.

Soy-Garlic Air Fryer Chicken Thighs

279 calories · 45g protein · 39 minutes

Boneless chicken thighs marinated in soy sauce and garlic powder for 10 minutes, then air fried with a 2-minute high-heat finish at 400°F (200°C) to caramelize the soy sauce. Thighs are juicier than breast and hold marinades better. The dark, glossy finish makes these look like they took way more effort than they did.

Air Fryer Chicken & Onion Skewers

304 calories · 58g protein · 30 minutes

Chicken breast chunks stacked on thick onion rings and pinned with metal skewers. The onion caramelizes underneath and keeps the chicken moist. No flipping needed — the air fryer handles all sides. Fun to eat and looks impressive for minimal effort.

Sides

Seasoned Air Fryer Potato Wedges

344 calories · 5g protein · 23 minutes

Skin-on potato wedges with olive oil spray and seasoning. The skin crisps up beautifully, and a shake halfway through ensures even browning. At 344 calories for the whole batch (400g of potatoes), this is a filling side that pairs with any of the proteins above.

Crispy Air Fryer Crinkle-Cut Fries

290 calories · 4g protein · 19 minutes

Frozen crinkle-cut fries straight from the bag — no oil needed. The ridges catch the hot air and get crispy on their own. 19 minutes total, salt when they come out. The easiest recipe on this list.

Air Fryer Tips That Actually Matter

  • Don't overcrowd the basket. Air needs to circulate. One layer, with space between pieces. Cook in batches if needed.
  • Shake or flip halfway. Most recipes need a flip or shake at the midpoint for even browning. The exception is skewers — they're fine without it.
  • Oil spray > pouring oil. A light spray gives you crispiness without the calories of poured oil. One spray is about 2 calories.
  • Pat proteins dry. Moisture on the surface steams instead of crisps. Quick pat with a paper towel before seasoning makes a big difference.
  • Use an instant-read thermometer. Chicken is done at 165°F (74°C). Don't guess — overcooking is the #1 reason people think healthy food tastes bad.
