Chicken breast on skewers with thick onion rings — the onion caramelizes in the air fryer and keeps the chicken moist from underneath. You don't need a grill to get that skewer experience. Metal skewer pins work perfectly for the air fryer basket — they're short enough to fit and hold everything together.

The assembly is simple: stack a chunk of seasoned chicken on top of an onion ring, pin it with a skewer, and let the air fryer do the rest. No flipping needed — the hot air circulates around all sides. The onion chars on the edges while the chicken stays juicy.   • 1.1 lb (500g) boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into chunks
  • 1-2 medium onions, cut into thick rings
  • Oil spray
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Cut and season

    Cut chicken into ~2-inch chunks. Season with salt, pepper, and a light oil spray. Cut onions into thick rings.

  2. Step 2: Assemble skewers

    Assemble skewers

    Place an onion ring on the air fryer basket, top with a chicken chunk, and pin with a metal skewer. Repeat for all pieces.

  3. Step 3: Air fry

    Cook at 356°F (180°C) for 20 minutes. No flipping needed.

  4. Step 4: Serve

    Remove skewers carefully — they'll be hot. The onion should be charred and caramelized, chicken golden and cooked through (165°F / 74°C).
